NRS-17735 | Agenda Books [Royal Newcastle Hospital]

This series consists of the Agenda for meetings of the Board of Directors, House Committee and Finance Committee of the Royal Newcastle Hospital, as also of the Hospital’s Annual General Meetings (Subscribers’ Meetings). These Agenda are recorded in strict chronological order, regardless of the Board or Committee to whose deliberations they pertain. One of the surviving volumes bears the title “House Committee Agenda Book,” suggesting that the preparation of agenda for Board and other meetings might have been particularly the responsibility of House Committee, although this is just inference.The series is currently represented by two volumes, which contain agenda for the years 1927-1929 and 1932-1936 respectively. In the earlier volume, agenda were originally entered only on the recto of each leaf; once the end of the volume had been reached in this manner, it was turned over, and further agenda were entered on the originally blank verso (now recto) pages. Almost all of the agenda in these volumes have been entered by hand; only a very few appear as typescript paste-ins.Both volumes are of the older “exercise book” type, with pages in sewn gatherings between cloth-covered boards and with a cloth spine. The cover of the earlier of the extant volumes is knocked and worn, with a corner of the front board missing; both volumes are loose at the spine.
