The Silkworm Cocoon Spot Price Index is the only national index that reflects price changes of silkworm cocoon products. It is calculated by first deriving standard product prices from the quoted prices submitted by price collection units and the corresponding quality indicators of the quoted commodities, then computing the arithmetic average of these standard product prices to generate the final cocoon index.

1. Variety Selection: Fresh cocoons and dried cocoons (after drying treatment)
2. Data Collection: Transaction prices and corresponding quality indicators are reported by price collection units.
3. Variety Classification: Classification is conducted based on three categories: fresh cocoons, dried cocoons of grade 4A to 5A, and dried cocoons of grade 5A and above.
4. Indicator Selection: Six physical property indicators of silkworm cocoons that have a significant impact on cocoon prices, including raw silk rate (maozhe), cleanliness, qualified cocoon loading rate, reelability rate, 10,000 diao (a traditional unit for cocoon quantity measurement), and good pupa rate (for fresh cocoons).
5. Calculation Method: Based on the six aforementioned physical property indicators, classified samples are standardized with adjustments such as premium and discount according to the standard silkworm cocoon indicators, and converted into standard product prices. The silkworm cocoon index is then generated by taking the arithmetic average of these standardized standard product prices. In addition, parameters and structures such as premium and discount in the model will be optimized and adjusted irregularly according to actual industry changes, so as to improve the stability and accuracy of the model.
6. Data Application: There are numerous physical property indicators that affect the price of silkworm cocoons, and a single transaction price cannot accurately reflect the current price level. The establishment of the silkworm cocoon index can timely reflect the current price situation of silkworm cocoons, providing reliable data support for the operation of the sericulture and silk industry.
