Spontaneous preterm births and the vaginal microbiota

Here, we performed the largest single-site investigation of the vaginal microbiota in the context of spontaneous preterm birth. Through multiple analytical approaches, we report associations between spontaneous preterm birth and changes in vaginal microbiota diversity. These findings indicate that changes in the vaginal microbiota can have clinical utility to identify a subset of women who will undergo spontaneous preterm birth.
