The experiment was conducted at York university on stong pond, and saywell woodlot from 2:40-5:20 pm. In the experiment we used quadrats to measure the abundance of species in a certain area in both grassland and woodland. The quadrat used for this experiment was 1m x 1m and it was randomly laid out in 10 different areas in grassland and 10 different areas in woodland for a total of 20 number of quadrat samples. After the quadrat was laid out on the ground, the total number of different species was observed and estimated. Each of the quadrat was observe for about 2 minutes, and the amount of total number of species observed in that time interval was recorded, if there were no species observed in that time period zero was put as the estimate. In addition, we also observed different taxonomic units per sample (rtus) from class insect, class gastropoda, and class oligochatea. The different rtus from each sample was observed based on appearance and recorded in each column of the class.

本实验于约克大学(York University)的斯托池塘(Stong Pond)与塞韦尔林地(Saywell Woodlot)开展,实验时段为当日下午2:40至5:20。本实验采用样方(quadrat)法,对草地与林地的特定区域内的物种丰度进行测定。本次实验使用的样方规格为1m×1m,分别在草地随机布设10个样方、林地随机布设10个样方,总计20个样方样本。将样方布设至地面后,研究人员需对样方内的不同物种总数进行观察与估算。每个样方的观察时长约为2分钟,记录该时段内观测到的总物种数;若该时段内未观测到任何物种,则以0作为估算值。此外,本实验还针对每个样本的不同分类单元(rtus)开展观察,涵盖昆虫纲(class insect)、腹足纲(class gastropoda)与寡毛纲(class oligochatea)。研究人员依据外观特征对每个样本内的各类rtus进行识别,并按纲别对应的列进行记录。
