William Rathbone VI

William Rathbone VI (1819-1902) was a wealthy and influential local businessman with a family history of promoting education in Liverpool. A politician from 1868 to 1895, he helped to generate public and financial support for University College Liverpool. Today the Rathbone family still supports the university in a variety of ways, and the Victoria Gallery and Museum has a number of objects donated by the family.
