British Geological Survey (BGS) Sampling Survey 1973/10: Irish Sea, Bristol Channel and English Channel (27/Jul/1973 to 15/Dec/1973)

This sampling survey has been carried out by, Institute of Geological Sciences (IGS) now British Geological Survey (BGS) for BGS, the survey took place from July to December 1973 in the Irish Sea, Bristol Channel and English Channel on board the MV Whitethorn. These purpose was to collect data as part of a regional mapping programme. Sea floor data were collected using Wireline drilling equipment (Borehole), Rock Gravity Corer, Sediment Gravity Corer, Vibrocorer and Shipek Grab. These data are archived by BGS. Details of the survey are contained in IGS report 79/8 and IGS Annual report 1973.本次抽样调查由原地质科学研究所（Institute of Geological Sciences，IGS）开展，该机构现已更名为英国地质调查局（British Geological Survey，BGS），服务对象为英国地质调查局（BGS）。本次调查于1973年7月至12月期间，在爱尔兰海、布里斯托尔海峡及英吉利海峡海域进行，作业搭载于MV Whitethorn号船舶。本次调查的目的是作为区域填图计划的一部分收集相关数据，海底数据采集采用了绳索取芯钻探设备（Wireline drilling equipment (Borehole)）、岩石重力取芯器（Rock Gravity Corer）、沉积物重力取芯器（Sediment Gravity Corer）、振动取芯器（Vibrocorer）以及希佩克采泥器（Shipek Grab）。上述数据由英国地质调查局（BGS）归档保存，本次调查的详细信息收录于IGS报告79/8及1973年度IGS年报中。
