ArcCoastTools

The original model, built in ESRI’s ArcGIS 10.3 has been deprecated as ArcGIS Pro does not support some of the specific tools embedded in the models. As such, the toolbox was redeveloped in ArcGIS Pro, including a simple bathtub model (sBTM) and enhanced bathtub model (eBTM), packaged as executable GUI tools for practitioners undertaking GIS analyses in the coastal space. The models are provided as user-friendly tools and can be edited and customised if/as required. The sBTM presents the commonly used GIS bathtub model where all surfaces below a user-defined elevation is considered to be flooded. The eBTM was developed to better represent potential water pathways resulting from coastal inundation/flooding emanating from the ocean e.g. storm surge. The eBTM instils hydrological connectivity to the coast and considers the topography (slope, aspect, physical barriers etc.) that may promote or hinder water flow. An optional additional raster output presents the effort (as a percentage) incurred for water to navigate the terrestrial environment and may be used for ground truthing against observed inundation extents or validation points. The eBTM requires the ArcGIS Pro Spatial Analyst extension to run the model. Various papers regarding the enhanced bathtub model have been published.
