VPRS 1169 Register of Orders in Council

This series is a register which provides a record of Orders-in-Council made following submissions from the Premiers Office. Many of the entries relate to Victorian public servants (the Public Service Board [VA 886] operated within the Premiers Office until 1894 when its staff were transferred to the Chief Secretarys Department [VA 475]). For example, under the Public Service Restraint Act 1888, in order for a public servant to do work outside their ordinary hours (such as working as an examiner at a university), express permission had to be obtained from the Governor in the form of an Order-in-Council in the Government Gazette.An entry was made in the Register as approval from the Governor-in-Council was received.
