Replication Data for: Revisiting the security-development nexus: Human security and the effects of IMF adjustment programs

This article proposes a new index of human security—the ability of states to protect the security of their citizens and to cater to their basic socioeconomic needs. Based on a collection of 11 indicators that represent the varied discourse on human security in the related literature, we employ Confirmatory Factor Analysis to demonstrate the existence of a single latent factor—the Human Security Index (HSI). We validate the index by comparison against known proxies and related measures. We then present a first empirical application examining the human security implications of IMF programs, finding that IMF programs undermine human security.本文提出了一项全新的人类安全（human security）评价指标——即国家保护本国公民安全、满足其基本社会经济需求的能力。研究基于相关文献中体现人类安全多元论述视角的11项指标，采用验证性因子分析（Confirmatory Factor Analysis）证实了单一潜变量的存在，即人类安全指数（Human Security Index, HSI）。我们通过将该指数与已知替代指标及相关度量标准进行对比，完成了有效性验证。随后，我们开展了首项实证应用研究，考察国际货币基金组织（International Monetary Fund, IMF）项目对人类安全的影响，结果发现IMF项目会损害人类安全。
