Trophic cascades, the effects of predators that propagate downward through food webs across multiple trophic levels, are crucially important for us to understand the structure and dynamics of ecosystems (Ripple et al. 2016). In freshwater habitats, manipulations of piscivorous fish have been used in lake restoration to improve water quality, as predation by fish can result in strong cascading interactions in lower trophic levels and environments (Hansson et al. 1998).
