As an instrument of comprehensive, resource-oriented groundwater protection, the Au Water Protection Area is equally geared towards quantitative and qualitative groundwater protection. It includes the usable underground waters as well as the boundary areas necessary for their protection. The water protection areas Au form a central element of the water protection map created and adapted by the cantons, which is forwarded to the FOEN.
