Occurrence of dinoflagellate cysts in ODP Hole 119-738C (Appendix)

Forty-one samples from the lower section (between approximately 370 and 495.5 mbsf) drilled at ODP Site 738 (southern Kerguelen Plateau) were analyzed for their palynomorph content. The majority proved to be palynologically barren. Twenty-one species and subspecies of dinoflagellate cysts were recorded, however, from the eight samples that proved productive. The irregular distribution of the cysts makes accurate age determinations difficult, particularly for the lower part of the succession. However, species recovered from Cores 119-738C-21R to 119-738C-23R indicate a latest Maastrichtian age.对凯尔盖朗高原南部的大洋钻探计划（Ocean Drilling Program, ODP）738站位所钻取的下部层段（海底以下约370至495.5米，meters below seafloor, mbsf）的41件样品开展了孢粉型（palynomorph）组分分析。绝大多数样品经孢粉学检测后未检出有效孢粉型化石。不过，在8件产出化石的样品中，共记录到21种甲藻孢囊（dinoflagellate cyst）及其亚种。甲藻孢囊的分布不均一性使得准确确定地层年代颇具难度，对于该层序的下部层段而言尤为如此。但从119-738C-21R至119-738C-23R岩芯中获取的甲藻孢囊物种，指示其地层年代为马斯特里赫特阶末期。
