The Global Carbon Dioxide Monitoring Scientific Experiment Satellite, abbreviated as Carbon Satellite, is the first global atmospheric carbon dioxide observation scientific experiment satellite independently developed by China. The satellite carries two scientific payloads with integrated design, namely the hyperspectral carbon dioxide sounder and the auxiliary multi-spectral cloud and aerosol sounder. On December 22, 2016 at 03:22, China successfully launched this satellite using a Long March-2D carrier rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
