该目录源自MAST的CAOM(通用档案观测模型)表`dbo.caomobservation`,并随着HST观测进入档案而每周更新。

The Hubble Space Telescope Observation Catalog is a complete index of every observation acquired by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope since its launch on April 24, 1990, with data sourced from the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST). Hubble’s 2.4-meter primary mirror and suite of instruments have produced one of the most scientifically valuable archives in astronomy, with over 35 consecutive years of operation in low Earth orbit. Each row in the catalog represents one HST observation, i.e., a single exposure time unit for conducting observations with specified instruments, detectors, filters, and target pointings. Row data includes observation proposals (proposal ID, PI, title, category: GO, SNAP, GTO, DDT, CAL), targets (name, coordinates, moving/fixed flag), instruments and detectors (ACS WFC/HRC/SBC, WFC3 UVIS/IR, WFPC2 WF/PC, STIS, COS, NICMOS, as well as legacy FOC/FOS/HRS/FGS), and observation intent. This dataset serves as an authoritative reference for answering questions such as: What observations did Hubble conduct near a given right ascension/declination? Which proposals used STIS for ultraviolet spectroscopic analysis? Which targets have the deepest imaging coverage? It is designed for cross-matching with target catalogs (galaxies, quasars, stars, Solar System bodies), generating project-level summaries, planning JWST follow-up observations, and serving as training data for observation recommendation systems. This v1 release only provides observation-level metadata. Timing and exposure data for each observation—which requires joining with MAST’s `dbo.caomplane` table (4.6 million rows)—will be provided in the v2 release, as we are currently building an asynchronous batch processing pipeline. Currently, detailed timing/filtering information can be retrieved per observation via the MAST Portal or the `astroquery.mast` Python package. This catalog is derived from MAST’s CAOM (Common Archive Observation Model) table `dbo.caomobservation`, and is updated weekly as HST observations are archived. Calibration and engineering observations are also included, but can be distinguished via the `intent` column. This dataset is suitable for **table classification** tasks.
