This study aimed to investigate the allocation of P fractions in <i>C. chinensis</i> leaves at different developmental stages, focusing on how P is partitioned to meet the functional requirements of juvenile versus adult leaves. Our results demonstrate that <i>C. chinensis</i> is adapted to an understory environment by adjusting foliar P allocation, leaf structure, and physiological interactions. By prioritizing P allocation to the metabolic functions in adult leaves it ensures continuous photosynthate production and metabolic stability, essential for survival in low-light understory ecosystems. As the plant developed, shifting from maximizing light capture in juvenile leaves to conservative resource use in adult leaves reflect a dynamic acclimation to changing functional demands.
