Beta-oxidation of pristanoyl-CoA

Pristanoyl-CoA, generated in the peroxisome by alpha-oxidation of dietary phytanic acid, is further catabolized by three cycles of peroxisomal beta-oxidation to yield 4,8-dimethylnonanoyl-CoA, acetyl-CoA and two molecules of propionyl-CoA. These molecules in turn are converted to carnitine conjugates, which can be transported to mitochondria (Wanders and Waterham 2006, Verhoeven et al. 1998, Ferdinandusse et al. 1999).在过氧化物酶体中，通过膳食植物神经酸(alpha-氧化)生成的3-羟基丁酰辅酶A（Pristanoyl-CoA），经过三次过氧化物酶体β-氧化循环，进一步分解生成4,8-二甲基壬酰辅酶A、乙酰辅酶A和两分子丙酰辅酶A。这些分子随后转化成肉碱共轭物，能够被运输至线粒体（参见Wanders和Waterham 2006年、Verhoeven等1998年、Ferdinandusse等1999年的研究）。
