Soil carbon flux refers to the process by which soil releases CO₂ into the atmosphere through respiration, and is one of the key research topics in the terrestrial ecosystem carbon cycle under the context of global change. As soil is the largest carbon pool in terrestrial ecosystems, even minor changes in the soil carbon pool exert a significant impact on atmospheric CO₂ concentrations. Therefore, soil respiration has received extensive attention in global carbon cycle research. While conducting carbon flux observation studies using the eddy covariance technique, the China FLUX network also carried out long-term observations of surface CO₂ flux via the chamber method. Tropical seasonal rainforests are important carbon sinks, and this ecosystem plays a critical role in global carbon budgets and climate change regulation. Accordingly, this dataset compiles soil CO₂ emission flux data and routine meteorological data of the Xishuangbanna tropical rainforest obtained from January 2003 to August 2008 using the static chamber-gas chromatography method. The observed indicators include surface CO₂ flux, atmospheric pressure, air temperature, soil temperature at 5 cm depth, and soil moisture content at 5 cm depth. Three types of files at daily, monthly and annual scales are generated, aiming to provide fundamental data for global carbon balance estimation and carbon cycle research.
