“Institution pupils.” Large group portrait of students of the Overtoun Institution and members of the mission staff. Dr Robert Laws (1851-1934), founder of the mission, sits in the front middle holding a pith helmet. Situated near the North West shore of Lake Nyasa at Khondowe the Institution consisted of a school, hospital and accommodation, there were also workshops for carpentry, printing and engineering, and mills, brickworks and a pottery.
