Classical treatment of malignant melanoma consists in its surgical excision, but when distant metastases occur, overall median survival of patients is only 6-8 months. For the first time, the Argonaute HITS-CLIP approach was used to identify functional miRNA-target interactions involved in melanoma metastatic processes. We identified miRNA-target pairs in a poorly metastatic melanoma cell line and in its highly metastatic variant deepening functional activity of miR-130a. Triggering miR-130a expression cells showed altered viability and proliferation capacity. Our data can also be useful to select miRNAs as therapeutic targets to counteract tumor metastatization.
