During antioxidant stress, Ginkgo biloba exerts protective effects throughout the entire process from the initial stage of free radical formation to the occurrence of cellular inflammation-induced apoptosis, while Panax notoginseng mainly functions in anti-inflammation and anti-apoptosis. For the repair of glutamate-induced neuronal damage and neuroprotective effects, both Ginkgo biloba and Panax notoginseng can promote neuronal regeneration and repair damaged axons, thereby protecting nerve cells. Additionally, Ginkgo biloba leaves can alleviate glutamate-induced neurotoxicity; Panax notoginseng exhibits unique effects in repairing the blood-brain barrier and promoting angiogenesis. In clinical practice, Ginkgo biloba and Panax notoginseng are primarily used as adjuvant drugs combined with thrombolysis-related therapeutic regimens, serving to alleviate inflammation, reduce edema, improve the cure rate and prognosis. For diseases associated with chronic cerebral hypoperfusion, Ginkgo biloba shows distinct therapeutic efficacy: it can effectively improve related symptoms and enhance cognitive function and memory. Furthermore, as Ginkgo biloba can modulate dopamine secretion in the body to protect nerve cells, it possesses certain therapeutic effects on antidepressant-related disorders, yet clinical data remains limited and further research is required.
