根据中国第六次北极科学考察过程中的视频录像，该录像信息覆盖了2014年8月10日至8月17日不连续的“雪龙号”航线。其基本原理是由于船在冰区前进时，冰层被压碎后随着船体向后滑动，由于船体的阻碍而发生侧翻露出断面，这一过程被实时录像，根据人工筛选出的断面照片及参照物以及SAR图像问题分析计算出该地区、该时段970个测量点的海冰厚度数据。数据内容包括测量点的经纬度、测量时间（世界时、北京时）和冰层厚度
