Population by sex and five-year age groups in Apulia. Demographic forecasts from 2020 to 2030

With the project ‘Demographic forecasts’, included in the National Statistical Programme (code PSN IST-01448), Istat has been responding to this type of need for over thirty years, with a frequency that, if in the past it was periodic (every three to five years) since 2017, has become annual, and a model that from the original deterministic approach has been transformed into probabilistic. The interest in the territorial dimension has always characterized the activity in the field of demographic forecasting, because the possibility of producing information of territorial detail is fundamental to analyze and understand the national demography itself. However, the level of regional detail is often insufficient because the planning of a territory increasingly needs micro-founded information. The impetus of this growing interest has therefore led Istat to develop a new product in the sector, of an experimental nature for the time being: municipal demographic forecasts based on 1.1.2020 until 1.1.2030, by sex and age. The data can be directly downloaded from the site for all the Provinces, for the Municipalities capitals of the Province and for all the Municipalities, although not capitals, which exceed 30 thousand inhabitants.
