Images and Site Records from an Archaeological Evaluation at the corner of Apsley Street, Wellington Street and Churchgate, Stockport, Greater Manchester, 2022

This collection comprises images and site records from an evaluation carried out in 2022. Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned to undertake a watching brief and archaeological trial trench evaluation on land at the corner of Apsley Street, Wellington Street and Churchgate, Stockport. The watching brief was undertaken during the removal of concrete and asphalt. Two trenches were excavated to a depth of 1.2m, revealing multiple layers of brick rubble and demolition debris. A paved stone surface was investigated and recorded in the north-west of the site that overlay dark silty sand with frequent clinker and moderate demolition material.
