Cross-sectional study of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) gut microbiome combined with gut function and transit data.

Patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) suffer from myriad of gastrointestinal abnormalities in life past childhood. Dysbiosis of the gut microbiome is apparent in the CF population across all age groups, with evidence linking the dysbiosis to intestinal inflammation and other markers of health. This study aims to investigate the potential relationships between the gut microbiome with intestinal physiology, transit and health.Faecal samples from 10 patients with CF and matched controls were subject to 16S rRNA sequencing. Results were combined with clinical metadata and MRI metrics of gut function to investigate relationships.
