资源简介:

The purpose of this case study was to determine key factors utilized by school leaders in sustaining arts programs in California public schools in the wake of shifting priorities and accountability factors. Creswel’s (2009) Six‐Step process was incorporated in the data analysis process while Bolman and Deal’s (2008) Four Frames of Leadership were used in analyzing the collected data. The study focused on an urban elementary school that demonstrates an enduring commitment to the arts. This included adequate financial support for the arts, a broad curriculum in the arts, and recognition for their work in the arts. Triangulation resulted from comparison of data from document analysis, survey, interview, and classroom/school observation. Findings from this case study indicate that the school district support paired with the principal’s advocacy and leadership was essential to sustaining the arts at Myrna Leona Elementary School. The identified themes that allowed this school to prosper emerged from leadership, culture, and vision.
