Inhibitory NK receptor expression associates with altered antimalarial function of gd T cells

The goal of the study was to characterize inhibitory NK receptor (NKR) expression and function on gamma delta T cells from children with different malaria exposure histories. Using spectral flow cytometry to immunoprofile peripheral blood samples, we identified divergent NKR expression on major gamma delta T cell subsets. Further, we observed altered functional responses to TCR- and FcR-mediated stimulation among NKR-expressing Vg9Vd2 T cells, pointing to a role in modulating their response to malaria.
