METAGENOMIC ANALYSIS OF MEXICAN CHILDHOOD GUT MICROBIOTA

Mexico occupies one of the first ten places in child obesity worldwide. Many factors including lifestyle, environment and genetics have been linked to obesity. The gut microbiota has also been associated to the development of obesity.We performed a cross-sectional study with 46 Mexican children between ages of 6 and 12. We collected fecal samples and performed whole-genome shotgun DNA sequencing, processed and analyzed the data through a metagenomic pipeline to obtain taxonomic abundance and metabolic potential.
