资源简介:

CODEBOOK DOCUMENT. GENPOL studies the causes of the gender gap in politics, from a new perspective that builds on the research team’s previous projects. This new approach examines whether there are systematic differences in the ways women and men engage with politics, and seeks to explain those differences. As part of the systematic study of women's participation in politics, we have collected individual-level data through an online panel. The survey asks the same participants at several points in time: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025. The questionnaires used over these five years combine the repetition of certain questions — allowing for comparisons and tracking changes over time — with the introduction of new questions that explore emerging topics. The surveys systematically track multiple dimensions of political participation, civic engagement, attitudes, and personal background characteristics, with some topics remaining constant over time and others evolving or being introduced in specific waves. At the core of each survey wave is a Political Participation Module, which collects information on respondents' involvement in different forms of political activity. This includes contacting politicians, collaborating with political parties and other organizations, signing petitions, participating in demonstrations, and engaging in political consumerism. Over time, some of these questions have been expanded with follow-up questions on the territorial level of some actions. In addition to national-level participation, the surveys capture a wide range of local political engagement activities, such as attending town hall meetings, contacting local politicians, participating in activities organized by local councils, submitting complaints or suggestions, joining public consultations, and accessing municipal public information. Some waves further ask with which local services these participatory actions were related. Besides, there are questions on attitudes toward gender equality in various domains: children, work, and political leadership, electoral participation in national, regional, and local elections, civic associacionism, satisfaction with democracy and trust, media and information consumption, and political ideology among other topics.
