Piracy Events, 1564 to 1603

This dataset relates to the book <em>Ireland’s Sea Fisheries, 1400-1600: Economics, Environment and Ecology</em>, for more information on how it was generated, see Appendix 1 of that volume. This data was originally part of the more extensive Qualitative Fishing Database, which was a relational database built in Microsoft Access. The data presented here has been limited to records related to piracy events in Irish and adjacent waters from 1546 to 1603. All these events were recorded in witness depositions found in John Appleby’s <em>Calendar of Material relating to Ireland from The High Court of the Admiralty Examinations 1536-1641. </em> For more information on sources and explanations for the column headings, please read the introduction document uploaded here.
