Strategies to induce brown adipose tissue mass and functionality have been the focus of intense research in the last years to identify new approaches to treat obesity and its associated co-morbidities. In a mouse model system we demonstrate that pre-conception cold exposure leads to improved systemic metabolism and protects from diet induced obesity, exclusively through sperm via the paternal lineage. To further identify the mechanism, we did RNA sequencing analysis. Overall design: C57BL/6 mice (7-week of age) from normal mice (Ctrl) or paternal cold exposed (7 days before mating) mice (PCE) were housed at room temperature (RT) or cold induced for 3 days (3d CE). Four groups (n=3) are named as “Ctrl-RT”, “Ctrl-3d CE”, “PCE-RT” and “PCE-3d CE”.
