Widespread genome instability in Solanum tuberosum plants regenerated from protoplasts

To evaluate the contribution of large-scale genomic instability to somaclonal variation, we analyzed copy number changes in potatoes regenerated either from protoplasts or stem explants by comparison of Illumina read depth. Fifteen regenerants from protoplasts, thirty-three regenerants from stem explants, and eight non-regenerated control plants were subjected to low-coverage genome sequencing.
