As the first country to be impacted and tested by this major crisis, China was the first to contain the spread of the pandemic through the resolve and concerted efforts of its entire population. Disclosing confirmed case data was a critical component of China's epidemic response, serving as both a foundational guideline for epidemic prevention and control and a metric for evaluating the effectiveness of the response efforts. Since late January 2020, all regions across China have been releasing daily, uninterrupted counts of confirmed COVID-19 cases, striving for high comprehensiveness and granularity in their releases, and pinpointing confirmed cases down to the residential community level. This high-quality dataset, featuring completeness, first-hand availability, timeliness and long-term sustainability, provides detailed insights into the pandemic's development trends and the progress of epidemic prevention work from both temporal and spatial dimensions, and also offers valuable resources for research on the long-term impacts of COVID-19.
