Succession and functioning of bacterial and fungal communities in decaying wood

In this study we investigate the bacterial diversity and composition via high-throughput sequencing in decaying logs (in fresh trees and after 1, 2 and 3 years after cutting) of two tree species (Larix kaempferi and Quercus rubra) in a forest site. We relate the results to fungal community composition and wood decomposition of the same logs to reveal their possible interactions and effect on wood decay rates.
