EBAS (originally an acronym for the EMEP Database, now used solely as a proper name) is an observational database focused on atmospheric chemical compositions and physical properties, developed and operated by the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU). Its core operations encompass processing, archiving, and disseminating atmospheric composition data sourced from international and national long-term monitoring initiatives and research projects including ACTRIS, EMEP, GAW, AMAP, and HELCOM, alongside offering free and open data access to users. The EBAS dataset dates back to the 1970s, and as of May 2025, it has curated ground-based observational data for 868 variables across 1,380 monitoring facilities. Data is provided in NASA-Ames and netCDF file formats, and supports large-scale bulk data downloads.
