Parallel independent evolution of pathogenicity across the genus Yersinia. Yersinia enterocolitica (type O:3) str. YE12/03

Yersinia enterocolitica is an important food-borne pathogen causing gastroenteritis in humans. It is also frequently found in animals. The species is currently divided into 6 different bio-serotypes, which have different pathogenic potential and differ also in prevalence around the world. This strain was sequenced for comparative analysis of all bio-serotypes. This strain is from bio-serotype O:3 and was isolated from human faecal matter.
