A national soil organic carbon density dataset (2010-2024) in China using ensemble modelling based pedotransfer functions

We present Version 9 (V9) of the China Soil Organic Carbon Stock (SOCS) Database, a national-scale dataset derived from 23,103 rigorously validated soil samples (7,852 profiles) using ensemble pedotransfer function modeling. After comprehensive quality control, 855 samples (496 profiles) were excluded due to duplicate entries and erroneous measurements. The final dataset includes standardized variables such as profile identifiers, geographic coordinates, soil properties (BD, SOC, SOCD, pH, texture), layer depths, environmental covariates (DEM, climate, land cover), and metadata (methods, sources, sampling years). This dataset supports the manuscript "A national soil organic carbon density dataset (2010–2024) in China using ensemble modelling based pedotransfer functions" (Chen et al., 2025). Users must cite both the repository (DOI: [insert]) and the publication, with technical inquiries directed to Dr. Songchao Chen (chensongchao@zju.edu.cn). The Version 8 (V8) dataset, consisting of field observations (ensemble_model_train_data.csv) and model predictions (ensemble_model_train_predicted_data.csv), was used exclusively for training the ensemble algorithms. Unlike V9 (the finalized product), V8 serves as a developmental resource, with model code available on GitHub. The two versions are independent: V8 supports model reproducibility, while V9 provides the validated, application-ready output for end-users.
