Path and border river, Kilema, Tanzania, ca.1901-1910

"Weg bei Kilema mit Grenzfluß" ("Path near Kilema with border river"). A line of porters is crossing the bridge. Always two porters are carrying one hammock, each supported by African women or girls. There are three hammocks altogether. The third hammock seems to be empty. Another man carries a bundle on his head. A European women is riding on a mule, led by an African. The woman is wearing a long dress and a sun hat.; The picture was probably taken by Johannes Schanz (1876-1963). He worked as a missionary of the Leipzig Mission in Moshi and Mamba from 1901 to 1910.
