The Olympics For Melbourne Committee was the predecessor to the Melbourne Olympic Bid Committee (VA 3992). It was a committee within the City of Melbourne established by the Mayor. Its purpose was to establish Melbourne (rather than Sydney, Brisbane etc.) as the Australian city that would compete with the world to hold the 1996 Olympic games.This series comprises the records of that committee and includes minutes and agenda, reports, correspondence and printed material.The records document the activities undertaken to gain support for Melbourne to be the bid city.
