Symbiotic fungi alter plant resource allocation under high and low water availability

The goal of the study is to understand whether the environmental provenance of fungal symbionts influences the outcome of plant-fungal interactions, especially under environmental challenges. A single host plant genotype was exposed to three levels of soil moisture availability (low, moderate and high). Inoculated or uninoculated plants were grown under controlled conditions for 151 days after which shoot and root biomass were measured along with fungal diversity and community composition via amplicon sequencing.
