This table represents an Evidence Gap Map (EGM) showing how often a given noise-sensitivity measure (row) has been examined with respect to a particular psychometric property (column). The diameter of each bubble represents the number of samples for which the psychometric property specified by the column has been examined for the noise-sensitivity instrument selected by the row. The colour/shading of the bubble specifies the language in which the noise-sensitivity measure was administered. The instrument name indicates the questionnaire from which it was derived (e.g., WNSS; Weinstein, 1978), and the numeral indicates the number of items (e.g., WNSS-21, WNSS-5). The abbreviation “LEF” refers to the questionnaire developed by Zimmer & Ellermeier (1998). The abbreviation “NoiSeQ” refers to the ‘Noise Sensitivity Questionnaire’ developed by Schütte et al. (2007). Any versions of the questionnaires which are neither the full form, nor the established short form are called ‘variants’ of that questionnaire. The category ‘Other’ includes noise sensitivity questionnaires that do not fall into any of the above categories. Three types of single-item ratings are distinguished: self-assessments of noise sensitivity (called self-report ratings), ratings of the disturbance produced by noise (disturbance ratings), and scales by which participants rate their noise sensitivity in comparison to others (social-comparison ratings).
