AN AUTUMN ECONOMY: WORKERS SLAVES LINKED TO LABOR

Abstract: The main objective of this article is to analyze the two main economies of Piauí, starting from the end of the eighteenth century and extending throughout the nineteenth century. From this analysis we intend to make the reader aware that the need of the slave laborer in Piauí was closely linked to a productive system that was based on the exploitation of the work of the captive. That is, the existence of the slave laborer in Piaui’s lands was linked to work, regardless of the economic growth of the region.
