Habitat mosaic limits gene flow and promotes morphological adaptation in a generalist mammal species

Here, we address whether habitat mosaic influences the micro-spatial genetic structure of widespread generalist species, using the European wood mouse, <i>Apodemus sylvaticus</i>, as a model system. Genetic analyses were performed on samples collected from natural populations across three distinct habitat types (inner forest, forest edge, and adjacent hedgerow systems) lacking physical barriers to dispersal, at three matched sites. Results revealed genetic structure broadly among sites, but also between habitat types within sites.
