COGTD: China's first nationwide dataset of onshore oil and gas storage tanks based on high resolution remote sensing images

This dataset fills the shortage in China's oil and gas infrastructure data and provides necessary support for achieving “NDC 3.0” and “carbon peak and neutrality targets”. By combining multi-source data with AI driven detection methods, this dataset contains accurately detected onshore oil and gas storage tanks across China. And we used a bottom-up inventory compilation method to quantify the methane emissions related to oil and gas storage tanks in China, providing a high-resolution methane emission inventory. This dataset provides a transparent and verifiable data foundation, facilitates policy evaluation, and supports methane emission reduction efforts. It includes four files: • COGTD.zip: 76,635 oil and gas storage tanks (10 attributes: coordinates, geometric properties, shape, industry type, administrative geographic info) from GF satellite images. • OGT_CH4_1°×1°.nc: 1° gridded Bottom-Up methane emission inventory based on COGTD. • OGT_CH4_0.1°×0.1°.nc: 0.1° gridded Bottom-Up methane emission inventory based on COGTD. • OGT_CH4_100m×100m.nc: 100m gridded Bottom-Up methane emission inventory based on COGTD. • Each_Tank_Emission.zip: Individual emission data (annual/winter/summer) for 76,635 oil and gas tanks.
