Overview:
The China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS) is a large-scale, nationally representative survey program designed to monitor the demographic, socioeconomic, and health conditions of China’s internal migrant population. Conducted annually since 2009 by the National Health Commission, the CMDS collects comprehensive information on the living conditions, migration patterns, family structure, employment, public service access, social integration, and well-being of migrants without local household registration (hukou) in their city of residence.

The 2017 wave (CMDS-2017) employed a multi-stage stratified sampling method with probability proportional to size (PPS) to ensure national representativeness. The target population includes individuals aged 15 years and above who had lived in the survey destination for at least one month and did not hold local hukou status. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews conducted by trained enumerators, following standardized national procedures.

Sample Size:
Approximately 169,989 respondents across 31 provincial-level administrative units.
