Data and code for "Climatic preferences of major plant clades define the functional attributes of African savannatypes" (npj biodivers 5, 20 (2026). https://doi.org/10.1038/s44185-026-00138-5). The .zip archive contains two folders: presence: The presence and absence coordinate dataset for the species distribution modelling. This folder contains one file per modelled species with an R object (.rds) that can be opened using R (function readRDS(path) ). The file will read as a data frame with coordinates and an observation column (0 absence, 1 presence). This is sourced from publicly available data sources that have been properly referenced in the supplementary document to the article as well as properly cited in the main text. example: This folder contains two R scripts, "analyses.R" and "example_model.R". "analyses.R" is the code used for figure generation, as well as the recursive partitioning and Bayesian linear model analysis. "example_model.R" is the script that was used to fit species models using TTR.PGM. This was adapted to fit one example species. The necessary files are also provided in the folder "example". We did not provide the CHELSA climate data used to fit models and ask everyone that is interested in re-running the code to provide these as instructed in the folder/script.
