The FHFA House Price Index is an official housing price database published by the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency. This index tracks changes in single-family home prices across all U.S. states and hundreds of cities since the mid-1970s via the repeat sales methodology. Drawing upon mortgage transactions purchased or securitized by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the index provides housing price trend indicators at multiple levels including national, state, and metropolitan area levels.
