The Japanese crane (Grus japonensis) is a critically endangered bird found throughout Japan. As of 2023, there are only about 3000 individuals of the Japanese crane left in Japan, and their conservation is urgently needed. We sequenced their DNA isolated from cultured skin epidermal cells using Nanopore PromethION and Illumina Hiseq X.
