Eleven indicators are used to create a composite index of national science capacity; weighted to emphasize the role of R&D spending and scientific workforce; 203 nations are represented; data from 2018 are used from multiple sources; data are normalized as appropriate; zscores are used to make the entire set comparable; USA, Korea, and Denmark are leading in the weighted capacity index ranking.
