Data has been created from hosted feature service (https://mapping.gw.govt.nz/arcgis/rest/services/GW/NRPMap_P_operative/MapServer). It has been shared to the Open Data Portal. This map shows the Cook Strait Cable Protection Zone (CPZ). It is included in the Plan in relation to Rule CM.R17x: Activities inside the Cook Strait Cable Protection Zone. The zone is bounded by set coordinates and runs to mean low water springs. The coordinates can be viewed in the cook strait cable protection zone coordinates feature class shapefile.As part of the National Grid, Transpower has cable links in Cook Strait which consist of:High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cables that transmit power between Benmore Station and Haywards in the Hutt Valley, and; Fiber optic cables that carry telecommunications, and used by telecommunication companies for domestic and commercial traffic and by Transpower for control of the HVDC link.Orders: With one minor exception, all fishing and anchoring is illegal within the Cook Strait CPZ. Contact Transpower for further information (www.transpower.co.nz)Exception: Taking of crayfish/paua/kina & set nets are permitted ONLY; within 200m of shore outside yellow warning signs either side Oteranga & Fighting Bay, AND; during daylight hours, AND; support vessels DO NOT anchor OR attach directly/indirectly to seabed.Statues: Submarine Cables and Pipeline Protection Order 1992; Submarine Cables and Pipelines Protection Act 1996; Submarine Cables and Pipelines Protection Amendment Order 1999.NOTE: NOT FOR NAVIGATION - Consult official Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) nautical chart NZ46 - Cook Strait for more detailed navigation information.
