Mexican Fishing Vessel Monitoring System Database (2011-2024)

A comprehensive database of Mexican fishing vessel activity spanning 2011-2024, derived from satellite-based Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data obtained from CONAPESCA (Comisión Nacional de Acuacultura y Pesca). The database contains 95.8 million georeferenced observations from 2,621 unique fishing vessels operating across Mexican territorial waters in the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea. Each observation includes vessel identification, spatiotemporal coordinates, movement metrics (speed, heading, distance traveled, turning angles), and behaviorally-classified fishing activity. The dataset integrates environmental data (sea surface temperature with temporal lags), catch landing reports, and spatial intersection with Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) boundaries.
